Armand Silvestre

The traveller

Traveller, to where are you going, walking
in the vibrant gold of the dust?
"I am leaving for the setting sun,
to fall asleep in the light.

For I have lived having but one God,
the star which shines and renders fertile,
and it is in its shroud of fire
that I wish to leave the world!"

Traveller, hasten your step then:
the star is sinking towards the horizon...
"What is that to me, I shall head lower
to wait for it at the foot of the hill.

And showing it my open heart,
bleeding of its faithful love,
I shall tell it: I have suffered too much,
Sun! Carry me away far from her!"
